Soon after birth we develop powerful emotional connections to feeding, eating, and food. We eat to socialize, nurture, express love, have fun, soothe a hurt, and reward ourselves for a job well done. In our food abundant environment, eating is a readily accessible way to add pleasure to our lives.

Watching Sadie pretend to enjoy the bone she doesn’t really want made me wonder if I do the same thing. Am I chewing on bones that aren’t mine?
Have I wanted something only because everyone else does? Or because having it reinforces my “status”?
I know I’ve fallen for this before, when it came to college degree, marriage, corporate career, expensive car, and probably even with ideal body intentions, too.
Clients consistently want help with career success, bigger bank accounts, better relationships, etc. But I suspect part of the reason some of us aren’t so good at manifesting that stuff is because it isn’t what we really want.
As spring unfolds, I started thinking about manifesting a beautiful yard this year – thick, full green lawn bordered by thriving flowers and bushes. But is that what I really want? Or is that someone else’s bone?
It made me wonder more … what if my people didn’t care about long term relationships or financial security or even service to others?

But every time I see a “Body After Baby” article showing off how some celebrity is prancing around in a bikini six weeks postpartum, I want to puke.
I’m an OB/GYN physician and a mother, so I speak from experience when I say, “Bullshit.” Real women don’t have personal trainers, raw foods chefs, full-time nannies, and plastic surgeons at their beck and call. Body after baby, my ass.
Let me tell you the truth about the bodies I would see in an OB/GYN office. Shapes change. Waistlines disappear. Formerly plump breasts sag like empty Ziploc bags. Stretch marks mar porcelain skin. Muffin tops bulge over those damn low-waisted jeans that don’t flatter any figure. Vaginas gape. Stuff falls out.
